How is this year looking?

History states that a pre-season rankings have never mounted to anything.  This year is no different.  While some of the rankings (i.e. OSU, Ole Miss) don't make any sense, the No. 13 ranking for Dawgs this year probably needs to be No. 10.  Two losses would put us into lower 20s for rankings later down the road.  However, starting in the mid teens mean lower rankings and not much opportunity to move up.  Enough of the rankings.  Let's get on with this season!  OK State will be a great match up for us.  Entire country is picking the Dawgs to pull it off due to our O-line being better and passing game that could overcome defensive holes.

It's a new season and I for one am really excited about this one!  I look at this season as an opportunity (remember, last time we had a 5th year Senior as a starting QB...we won the SEC Championship).  Fresh faces, fresh talent, and lots of Dawg fans rooting them on!!

Goooooo Dawgs!!

Auburn?!

Where have the War Eagles or Tigers or whoever else they want to be called this year gone? What once was a good team and a great end of the year match up for the BCS #10 Dawgs are now about as bad as I've seen them since the NCAA violations were hammered down on them years ago.

I'll put SEC on the side for a while now and talk about one of the worse conferences in College Football - the Big 10.

OMG dude, OMG! Should they even have a team that's ranked in the top 25? OSU? One player goes down and suddenly that team is left for dead. Their whole world is turned upside down! Sure, they'll make excuses...but it comes down to Baby Wells crushing the hopes of nearly 50% unemployed, drunk ass OSU fans. Talk about one dimensional offense and playbook. Also, the v-neck sweaters went out of style in the '70 I believe. I thought we were in the 21st Century...oh wait, that's rest of the 49 states (and D.C.)!

Another disappointment: PSU. Their losing was projected by many people, including myself. They can't run the same style of football and expect to win against teams like Iowa. HA!

Michigan - where have you gone to...the CFL? Big Blue is sad. Forget about rebuilding and a new coach. Those are excuses Arkansas have. For Big 10 fans and players, they know exactly what CFL stands for...their next job after playing college ball for 5 years trying to finish a metal shop degree. Or a wood shop, whatever your interest is. This is a conference that's still living in the dark ages. No conference championship, and no real hope of beating ANY team from SEC. Until that happens in a REAL bowl game, I can't give any credit them. "Midwestern Pink Cotton Candy Bowl" for all you Big 10 fans is not a legit bowl against Auburn, by the way.

Props to the Big 12 and PAC 10 for bringing the level of competition. These next 3 weeks should be great to watch.

Am I the only one that thinks this way about the Big 10? Post your thoughts!

Have we seen everything?

We have Obama as the President-elect as of 11 pm EST. If this can happen in this great Country of ours, why can't we see the BCS go away? This past weekend proved that this corrupt system of NCAA football needs to be revamped. Now, more than ever, we need a legit PLAYOFF system. Make the change, you retarded NCAA money-hungry commissioners!! Why is a Dawg fan ranting? Not because I had predicted the loss against FL this past weekend, but the fact that a team having the 6th toughest schedule in College Football fell to #13 in the BCS from #6 and the fact that UF who had the one of the easiest schedules going up to #5 in the Country. Pollsters will tell you that UF had a decisive victory and that was worth upping their rank in the AP and USA today polls.

So where do we go from here? Only UP!!! Have faith, Dawg fans! I'm a glass more than half full guy. We still have work to do. UK, Auburn, and our enemy...Tech! We win these three games, I have no doubt we'll jump into the top 10 in the BCS since there are many other crucial games to be played by those teams, including many SEC games.

Let's look forward to a great BCS bowl until THEY fix the system and truly make College Football what it should be...a great game we all love!

Best Video Ever

I could not stop laughing after watching this clip of last year's GA FL game. Sturdivant has definitely got some moves!

National Championship to be decided soon?

Fellow Dawgs, I must say that this weekend's game was just what we needed to finalize the prep to play the Gators. Scoring 53 points tells me our offense can pretty much beat a good defensive team such as LSU. I expect this weekend's game in Jacksonville to be high scoring, shoot out. Something we've not seen in back to back years of GA-FL in many years. Last year, we won 42-30 and our offense was good, but not great. This year, we have a great offense and a pretty decent defense. I think the Alabama game was a wake up call for the Dawgs and they're hungry to play them again! Gators won't back down and want a revenge from an embarrassing defeat last year.

So, will the winner of this game play for the National Championship against either Texas or Penn State? -- YES! -- Bama has been struggling to score points lately while playing relatively easy teams with predictable offenses and defenses. The winner of this game will solidify the chances of a one loss SEC team playing for the National Championship against any other undefeated team ranked in the top 10 in the BCS. Either Gators or Dawgs can beat Bama. Both teams have been the championship game multiple times this decade. Dawgs more than Gators. Experience from both coaching staff and senior players will lift them over Bama.

Look for some trickery from both sides. Should be a game to remember. I'll be there and can't wait!

Having said all this....Goooooooooo DAWGS! Sick 'em!

p.s. post your pics of Gators now and tell the Dawg nation what you think!

BCS Rankings

I am still shocked at how the Gators are #5 in the AP, but #10 in the BCS...WOW, what a discrepancy

BCS thoughts

Thoughts on the previous "Poll of the Week": We had a solo vote for Vandy on who'll give Dawgs the biggest test of the season (that almost stood true!). Gators won as far as the biggest test we face remainder of the year with 4 votes and LSU had 1 vote. While LSU looks average (whatever that means in the SEC), the Gators have woken up! Offense looks about as fast as the Patriots or 49ers of the old. Lightning fast! Defense has holes that we should be able to take advantage of but it's their Special Teams that will be the difference in the game.

We find ourselves with the lucky number 7 standing within the flawed BCS system. Dawgs have the 6th toughest schedule in Division 1-A (the only other team that comes close to us are the Sooners). All the other top 12 teams have 40 or higher as far as Strength of Schedule is concerned (including Penn State at #100). This helps us. However, one loss to either LSU or Gators eliminates us from anything as far as Bowls are concerned. My thoughts, Dawgs will lost to LSU and win against Gators. This will at least keep us in the SEC East hunt but don't see teams such as USC or Alabama losing. OSU will lose BIG to Penn State this week.

So as we look forward to this weekend's 3:30PM EDT CBS game, I leave you with Poll of the Week: Who is the best team in the SEC year to date?

Another OT down

Georgia offensive lineman Vince Vance will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, making him the second starting left tackle the Bulldogs have lost this season.

Vance will need reconstructive knee surgery and should recover for the 2009 season, coach Mark Richt said Sunday. Vance started in No. 10 Georgia's 26-14 win over Tennessee on Sunday and was hurt in the second quarter.

The junior was the only upperclassman on the offensive line. Georgia could start three freshmen on the line against No. 22 Vanderbilt: center Ben Jones, guard Cordy Glenn and right tackle Justin Anderson.

Sophomore Clint Boling replaced Vance against Tennessee.

Georgia lost left tackle Trinton Sturdivant to a season-ending knee injury before the first game.

Richt said Kiante Tripp, who opened the season as the starter at left takle before moving to tight end, will return to tackle.

Breaking News for this Saturday's game against Tennessee

Southerland, slated to return to a salient role at fullback, will join his fellow Bulldogs between the hedges on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. to face off against Tennessee!! This will be a huge lift for us. Reports state that he is feeling good and is ready for full time action in the field. Certainly good news for the Dawgs.

More related game day notes:

Georgia-Tennessee Series
When Mark Richt took over as Georgia’s head coach in 2001, the Bulldogs won four of the first five meetings against Tennessee. However, the Volunteers have won the last two games, rallying for a 51-33 win in Sanford Stadium in 2006 and posting a 35-14 win in Knoxville last year. Tennessee leads the series 20-15-2 overall and is 8-5 in Sanford Stadium.

Georgia Looks To Get Healthy
During the Alabama game, four Bulldog starters were injured. They are questionable to return against Tennessee. Sophomore TB Knowshon Moreno (elbow), junior SE Kris Durham (ankle), senior TE Tripp Chandler (shoulder) and senior MLB Dannell Ellerbe (knee) took advantage of the offweek to heal for their team’s matchup against the Volunteers. Senior FB Brannan Southerland (foot) and junior DE Rod Battle (neck) hope to return to their starting spots against Tennessee. Southerland has not started a game this year and Battle started the first two but has not played since the Central Michigan game.

New Poll

Be sure to vote on the new Poll of the week!

Poll of the week thoughts

Our last week's poll was on how much time is erased from the boards while calling time outs, reviewing plays, etc. Seems like we have a consensus that between 1-3 minutes are lost per game. Since the rule change on the 40 second clock, total number of plays have gone down in college ball by 5-10 plays per game. By taking out more time by lack of clock management by refs and clock operator(s), they're potentially take out 2-3 critical plays out of the game. And in the SEC, this means a difference between a win or a loss. We're seen numerous examples of clock running out at the end of the games and one or two more plays could have won the game for a team (Dawgs have faced that few times in recent years).

Fulmer, here we come!

After a week off watching most of the SEC teams hold up on their own, Dawg Nation now looks to "donate" our frustration from the Bama loss to Fulmer. Feed his ever-expanding his belly. Post your favorite pics of our friend from the mountains. Rocky Top? How about Rocky goin' DOWN!

We look foreward...

First of all, congrats to "coach" winning the poll!

Yes, the game total was 71 points...most scored between these two rivals. Bama had our number in the first half but Dawgs came back in the second. 41-30 was never my prediction of the score of this game. Bear probably rolled in his grave! Just goes to show that SEC is a tremendous conference with very little difference in talent top-bottom. If the worst team over the last few "decades" is Vandy, I think the best team in any other conference including the Big 12 and Pac 10 would be tested against any bottom feeder team in the SEC (aside from Mississippi Bulldogs) .

As Dawgs started their fall in the first half, I had to turn the game off. Then I got a call from a real believer. I then switched to the game in 4th Q and our Dawgs looked like we belong. Was it apathy on Bama's part or did we wake up on both sides of the field during 2nd half?? We now have a week to rest before playing the best of the rest that SEC has to offer.

I, along with many others, believe that this was the biggest test for us talent-wise.

Game on!

We'll Be Okay

As bad as the first half of the game was..the dawgs played very tough and kept the Bama offense scoreless in the 3rd quarter. We showed signs of greatness and proved that we are still a team to be reckoned with:

Stafford had 2 TDs
Moreno, AJ Green, and M. Moore had a TD
We had a punt return for a touchdown
Defense shutdown Bama the entire 3rd quarter
We blocked a punt
We recovered an onside kick

I don't know what Richt told the players in the locker room during the half, but the boys finally showed up to play. Now if we couldve just done that in the beginning we would've won the game!!! Unfortunately for us, gameday may never come back to Athens this year since they were already packing up to leave at the half and didn't watch our boys fight hard in the 2nd half. But then again, maybe its a good thing. This game was super hyped up, and maybe that got to the players, who looked very tense in the first half.

Hopefully we won't drop too far in the rankings, can learn from this game, and dominate the rest of the year from here on out. We can still make the SEC championship, but we cannot make anymore mistakes and lose another one to a conference opponent.

until the Tennessee game...GO Dawgs

Oh and a MAJOR Pet Peeve of mine right now is how stupid the game clock operator is! It must have been a zillion times when I saw the clock still ticking away at the end of a play!! One on play, the player was down, and 5 seconds ticked off the clock before they stopped it!!

I am going to watch the Tennessee game in two weeks and keep a tally of how many seconds we actually lost in the game because of the stupid play clock operator. We need to start a poll on here to see everyones predictions of how much time is actually lost due to the play clock operators negligence .

GATORS GO DOWN IN THE SWAMP

It was 4th and short with a little over a minute to play and the gators were down 31-30 on the Ole Miss 32 yard line. The Gators decided to give the ball to Tebow so that they could pick up the first down and burn the clock all the way down for a possible field goal or touchdown.

BAAAAD CALL.

The Ole Miss defense HUNKERED DOWN and stuffed the middle and stopped Tebow a yard and a half short of the first down!! Ole Miss burned the clock all the way down and stunned everybody in the stadium!! Watching Urban Meyer look like a deer caught in the headlights was priceless. Now the dawgs must take care of business tonight!

Wow!! USC goin down is perfect!!!....i was already stoked about the game, but now it's even bigger!!...also, this could be a big heisman performance game for kshon...hopefully mark and bobo realize he's our bread and butter and give him the ball early to establish some stability early!!!...i hate it when we start off slow!!...we can't do that against the good SEC teams...GO DAWGS

Look Out for Larry!

ESPN has invited Larry Munson to be on the Gameday Show! Be on the lookout for him!

Scott Cochran Funeral Comment

Scott Cochran, head football strength and conditioning coach at Alabama said that Georgia is wearing black saturday because they are going to a funeral.

What he didn't realize is that the funeral isn't for Georgia.

Here is our "O" line. He'll fill the gap!

O-Line Will Be Tested

Dawgs need to watch out for Terrence Cody clogging up the middle. Gonna need a whole lotta draino to open up that hole. See any resemblance?
